Burgundy, between North and South of France, deserves more than a step: Since always a place of passage, today well served by the road network and the TGV, this wine country owes its richness to its religious and political history. It is impossible to walk a long time without meeting a vineyard that belonged to a powerful abbey, the most famous being those of Cluny whose monastery was at one time the most important spiritual center of all Christendom and Citeaux which established up to 12,000 branches in worldwide. Today Vezelay, Fontenay, ND of Dijon and many others testify of this prestigious past.
